When the owner of Angel of Mawdesley Natural Alkaline Water purchased the land, he was advised by a local farmer from Mawdesley Village that there was an ancient healing spring buried beneath it.
The farmer explained that the spring was reported to have healing benefits going back hundreds of years, possibly as many as 400.
Although the spring had remained unnoticed and buried for over a century, with no reports of it since the 1840s, searching through old newspaper articles and books in a Preston museum revealed a documented history of the spring, stretching back 400 years to the Elizabethan period.
After checking the possible location of the spring on Ordinance Survey Maps going back 200 years, the owner began excavating. After two days, water started to bubble up out of the ground… we had found the ancient spring!
The old spring was uncovered and the original timbers from the spring (constructed in 1840), were re-discovered and, in providing access to the mineral rich water, these were utilised in the construction of the water chamber so as to protect the water from contaminants.
The surrounding area was cleared and landscaped, and walls were built and tanked to keep the water out.
The shape of an angel was found when excavating the old spring
After six weeks of digging down, whilst clearing the spring and making safe the surrounding area, it was discovered that the natural rocks from which the waters emerge formed the shape of an angel and to that discovery, the name of our drink “Angel of Mawdesley Natural Alkaline Water” was dedicated.
The landowner, who has strong spiritual beliefs, was astonished that the angel rock formation was similar to that of his angel necklace purchased some years ago. This was a sign that he would be the perfect custodian for the angel rock formation at the heart of the spring.
The shape of the rock formation was similar to the owners pendant
The current landowner of the spring now wishes to share this water with the world as Angel of Mawdesley Natural Alkaline Water.
After unearthing the spring in West Lancashire, stories began circulating about an ancient healing spring being uncovered. People began talking about the benefits of the water and its natural pH level. It was through a mutual friend that the owner of Angel of Mawdesley Natural Alkaline Water was introduced to footballer Steven Gerrard, who was interested in the spring and its unique water and history, and soon became a believer in Angel of Mawdesley Natural Alkaline Water.
Angel of Mawdesley Natural Alkaline Water is unique: with its historical reports and articles about the spring setting out the benefits of the water, combined with the angel rock formation at the core of the spring, the belief in its benefits are, in our view, well founded.
The landowner firmly believes that the benefits of Angel of Mawdesley Natural Alkaline Water are clear if you choose to believe.
